Movie in the Park: The Princess Bride

Every time the seasons change, I like looking back on all the fun adventures Chris and I had the past few months. One of my favorite memories this past summer was walking from our house to the park across the street to watch my childhood favorite movie, The Princess Bride. Not only is this movie a classic, but it might be the first movie I started quoting regularly. (Aside from the Newsies!)

I was so excited to go to the show, that I bought our tickets about 3 months in advance. Life gets so busy sometimes that I was not about to let this one pass us by! The day of the movie Chris and I made some homemade popcorn to take with us. We like to cook it in coconut oil, and it's my favorite movie night snack!

Not that there weren't a million food options all around the park. There were at least 20 food trucks to satisfy even the pickiest eater. Food trucks are serious business here in LA. Much more than your average taco truck, we have everything from vegan to BBQ, to cupcakes, gourmet grilled cheese, you name it. The long lines for the trucks, however, not as much fun.

No outdoor movie is complete without a few bottles of Stack Wine. We were so impressed by them at our beach picnic (see it here), that I knew they would be just as hassle-free for our movie in the park night. Especially with so many dogs around, including our own, I felt much safer with no glass bottles, and no messy pouring. The best part of watching a movie is relaxing, so the less fuss, the better!

It was so fun brining Bella along too. I wasn't sure how she would do with so many people and other pups around, but she loved it! She cozied up on the blanket with us and was quiet pretty much the whole time. It made me remember another item on our bucket list- the dog friendly beaches!

Now onto the best part of the night....

Who better to introduce The Princess Bride than Mr. Westley himself, Cary Elwes. (!!!) It's crazy when you grow up watching a movie, quoting it, loving it, and then out of the blue come across the main character! I had no idea he was going to be there, and I am SO glad we had front row seats!

He was there to promote his new book, As You Wish, which tells behind the scenes stories and fun facts about the making of The Princess Bride. He shared a few stories with us, and it was really interesting!

Did any of you go to a movie in the park night this year? If you could pick any movie, what would you want to see?

It was great! If you go, definitely bring a lot of extra pillows and blankets! As it got later, the grass was a little dewy, so we were thankful we had the extra blankets to lay on!

Loved this. Looks like so much fun. Over the summer we watched Jaws in the ocean. They had a huge screen set up so everyone could pull their boats up. It was terrifying. lol. but so fun.
